A public meeting and Dharna was held in Jhargram (the sub-divisional headquarter of Lalgarh area) by the Jharkhand Andolan Samanway Manch on 11 February2010 to oppose Operation Greenhunt, to demand the closure of polluting Sponge Iron Factories in Jhargram , to demand the abrogation of UAPA and to demand the release of all political prisoners including Upansu Mahato, the leader of the movement against pollution of Sponge Iron.Nearly 200 actvists of CPI(ML)PCC and various Jharkhandi parties participated in the day-long Dharna. Speakers in the meeting included Santosh Rana of CPI(ML)PCC, Pradip Singha Thakur of CPI(ML)ND, Manoranjan Mahato of Jharkand Janamukti Morcha and Chhotan Das of Bandimukti Committee.
A similar meeting was held in Kolkata on 9 February by Sangrami Bam Samanway, a co-ordination of six Left organizations in West Bengal. The meeting denounced P.Chidambaram for his programme of Operation Greenhunt and demanded the release of Upansu Mahato of Jhargram, Gananath Patra of Orissa and all political prisoners arrested under UAPA.
